Group Time!

So here is a way to save money when doing almost anything.  Now group sizes required are going to vary by activity but in the long run having a group is going to help.  For instance if you are going to a show or an amusement park you can usually get a group discount rate.  Or if you are going on a trip somewhere it usually will end up being cheaper for everyone if you have a group.  That goes for when you are in the process of traveling.  Carpooling is a great way to do this because the overall cost of travel will decrease for each person individually. It is the same thing if you do a group tour, the you will each individually save money when you book the tour as a group and not going on a tour with just a few people.  So try and do the best you can to find a group out there so you can save money and still be able to do the fun things you want to do.

Getting you Financial Aid Package!

June 15th, 2009

Well it is around that time of the year for many college students when your financial aid packages should start rolling in.  This is something that is very important to keep checking for because it will affect your timing for paying the bill and applying for private loans if you need them.  So, when you first get your package sit down with your parents and really go over it.  Make sure everything on there looks good when you first look at it.  Then if you have a problem you should call the financial aid office to see if they can change anything in the package to help you out.  Many times they will be able to give you a little more money if you call the office or go directly in person if you can.  Also you want to make sure it is all set when it comes time to pay your bill so you only have to pay what you really need to pay.  The last point you want to deal with, with your financial aid package is to see if you are going to need to get your own private loans.  If you are going to need to, you want to do it as soon as possible so you can make sure you get the money and your bill gets paid off.  So, keep on the look out for your financial aid package and jump on it as soon as you get the chance.

Summertime, lets have fun!

June 11th, 2009

So now that it is summer you probably have some free time to fill.  Now there are a million things to do but you really want to try and make them cheap if possible.  So if you have the option to go the the park for the the day or go to Six Flags, the park is probably a better choice.  Now every once and a while Six Flags is an okay thing but don’t make it all the time.  The same with the day at the beach or a day at the outlets, the beach will probably be cheaper.  Now because it is cheaper doesn’t mean it can’t be as much fun.  Now I could go on and on but I think you get the point.  So over the summer make good choices about where to spend your money.  Do not go overboard on things that you don’t really need.  But make sure you have fun, you will be working a lot so really enjoy the time that you have off.

Going on Vacation!

Now that it is summer, this is something that many people will do while the weather is nice.  Now if you have a little extra money then it might be okay to spend it on a trip somewhere, but this probably isn’t the case for most of us.  For instance, I am going to visit my roommate for a week.  He is from Pennsylvania so it will be a get away that wont cost me more than $300 for the week.  Not a bad price for getting away.  Now I am saving because I am staying with him so no hotel costs.  I am also going down with others, so carpooling cuts down on gas prices and eating at his house at times will save money too.  So, if you are going somewhere this summer try and do it for little money.  You will be glad if you can do this.  Also another thing many people are doing is a staycation.  This where they will take a week off from work and stay home but go out and do fun things each day.  So here the only money you are spending is what you go and do that costs something.  So I hope you can go somewhere and have fun when you do it, but remember the cheaper it is the better off you will be in the long run.

Spending Wisely!

Now this is something that I have probably touched on before but should be brought up every so often.  You really do need to make sure you spend your money cautiously.  Now hopefully most of you out there have a summer job and you will be making some decent money over the few months you are out of school.  You really need to make sure everything you buy is worth it and you should try paying of some of those loans or setting aside some of that money to buy the books you will need.  If you are able to do this you will be much better off in the long run.  When you go to buy books in the fall and all the money is there and then some it will be a great feeling.  Or if you can get ahead by paying of some of you loan or maybe an entire loan that would be something huge.  So go out there, earn that money, and spend it on things that you really need and not just some nonsense stuff.

Number 150!!

So this post is somewhat of a milestone for us here at Funding-College.net  This post marks out 150th post here on our site.  Now along with this being a milestone here for us, there are many milestones that one may come across while they are in college.  Really every semester you get through while you are in school is a milestone because you now have that much college under your belt.  It means you have more experience and you are that much closer to graduating.  Another type of milestone you may reach while in college is if you get an extern or internship.  Either way it is something great that you have accomplished and something you can say that you have been able to do.  Now we all have our own personal milestones that I don’t need to go into but keep all of these in the back of your mind.  You can use them when you are feeling like things are hopeless to give you that extra push.  All you have to think is that you can really do it.  So go out there and push along to reach those milestones your after.  Good luck.

Get prepared for summer classes!

Many college students will take summer classes while they are in college either to get ahead or because they might be behind a little and want to graduate on time.  But whatever reason it is for, you need to make sure that you get prepared to take them.  Now for some this message might be a little late but for everyone else it is going to be helpful.  So if you have yet to start your summer class(es) if you are taking any then here are some pointers you want to follow.  First make sure you have everything ready before the start of the class.  That means make sure it is paid for on time.  Also make sure you have any books you need for the class.  Many schools will have a way you can check online for books you need through the bookstore.  This is usually the same way you can do it for the regular school year.  So once you have done this and have everything ready to start, you just have to wait until the starting date for the class.  Now many many summer classes are online or you can take the traditional in the classroom class.  Either way make sure you are there and ready to go on the first day.  Even though this is a summer course you want to treat it like a regular one.  It is still very important and you want to do well no matter what.  So good luck for any classes that you are taking this summer.

An Easy Way You Can Save For College!!

Well, this is something that we all should be doing or at least try to be doing as much as we possibly can.  And this is we all should be saving some money for college.   So the best way to do this is to start by having a job this summer.  With out this trying to save for college will be pretty hard to do.  So when you get paid each week or every other week for some jobs, you need to figure out a percentage of each check that you can set aside.  Now this is going to be different for everyone and there is no right or wrong amount.  So once you have figured out the amount you can set aside, you must then look for the right account to put it in.  Now your best bet is to look for the highest interest yielding savings account you can find.  Check around at local banks but also look online.  More often than not the higher interest rates will be in the online savings accounts.  But one thing to keep in mind, if you are going to go with an online savings account you will need to have online banking through your on bank so yo can transfer the money.  Now once you have accomplished these two goals sit back and watch the money add up each week.  Before you know it you could have a decent amount of money saved up.

The Ending That Came from Nowhere

So this American Idol post is again a little late but sadly it is the last one for season 8.  So the finally of American Idol was a spectacular one where they brought back many of the top 12 to sing with big stars.  And boy did they have a start filled line up.  Kiss, Queen, and many others just to name a few.  But the real battle was between Kris and Adam and did this show end in a way that no on expected it to.  It was Kris who beat out Adam to be crowned the Season 8 American Idol.  Now I hope people didn’t just vote for anyone person because they were cute or anything to that matter but because they thought they were the most talented person of the season.  But either way I thought they were both very good but would have liked to have seen Adam win.  Overall though I thought that this season had the most talent ever out of all of the idol seasons and that most of the people on this show are going to get recording contracts.  So now we all will just have to wait until season 9 for more American Idol.

Saying Goodbye!

Well many have already gone through it this year but if your still at school like me, well at least for a few more hours, then it is still to come.  So this is hard for many people, and easier for others like me.  I am someone who this is nothing cause I will see everyone again before I know it.  So before you leave make sure you take time to say goodbye to everyone.  Even though you will see them soon, it is still a good thing to do.  Then on your way out give a nice big wave to campus and off you go for the summer.  Or for some of you this might be it.  But whether it is or not, hopefully you had a good year and for the most part if you were close to people you will still continue to see them whether your in school or not.
